A short note to start out the morning. Great piece at nationalreview.com on Mike Huckabee and the implications of his commutation of Clemmons. The President’s speech on Afghanistan failed to convince a lot of people I think on two counts: 1.) his heart didn’t seem in it and 2.) what sense does it make to announce a surge and new strategy, then announce that the pullout/withdrawal starts in 18 months? If I am the Taliban, I tell the Afghan people not to cooperate with the Americans, because they will soon be gone (” See what their President says.”), and we will still be here.
Unemployment drops to 10% from 10.2%, good news and the stock market has rallied over the past several months, however, the growing debt, the falling dollar, the decline in retail sales, the increase in taxes, these do not bode well for our economic future. Such a golden opportunity for the GOP, but they need new leadership, they need to be bold, they need to be positive and offer a true difference, I pray for my country that they are up to that challenge.
My husband is in the same boat as Marilyn’s husband. We had no idea of the pillage going on in our country’s financial system regarding Goldman Sachs, Merril Lynch, Citibank, Lehmans, Washington Mutual, and others. ( read: “IT TAKES A PILLAGE”) If you want all the facts of who did what leading up to the collapse last September. We are in our 60’s with house payments; because my husband intended to work until he was 75 (yes, there are some of us out there blessed with excellent health). You guessed it, he was the only long-time employee laid off with the few new ones and the part-time ones. It was due to his age and nothing else (he had been given great reviews and salary increases right along). Now we find ourselves in the position of losing our house to the bank (everything we have is tied up in the house) when his unemployment runs out. We thank God for unemployment—our state has been very generous and has taken good care of those persons who are unemployed….but sooner or later it WILL RUN OUT. Then the second wave of the recession will hit. There are millions of people in their 50’s and 60’s who have lost their jobs through absolutely no fault of their own. I predict this “house of cards” the banks, mortgage companies, Democrats and Republicans have constructed over the past 10 years (since Glass-Seagal was repealed), will come home to roost in the latter part of 2010.
RIGHT ON MARIYLN! The Gov. here is NO BETTER!!!
This President is TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED! 2010 COME QUICKLY!
Hi Kirby,
My mornings just aren’t the same without listening to you! A couple of thoughts on the events of the past week: 1) President Obama has shown himself to be weak and niave on foreign affairs and leading our troops in time of war. 2) Did you hear Obama say one word of sympathy for the Lakewood PD? I didn’t 3) I hold Gov Gregoire to a HIGHER standard than just a governor because she was previously the attorney general. She should not be heaping the blame on Arkansas when she herself urged the early release of prisoners and a reduction of supervision time to save the state money! And what is this crazy talk of not accepting any more parolees from Arkansas? A parolee from any other state can be just as or more dangerous than Clemmons was. 4) a .2 drop in the unemployment rate is not going to help my 60 yr old white male spouse find a job when no one will hire him, even for positions he is 110% qualified for! I wish you were still on the air for people looking for work to advertise themselves to your conservative listeners!
