Misc Musings

Well, sorry I haven’t posted daily thoughts recently, it’s been a bit hectic with Christmas and all. I will be better in the future and will eventually respond to as many of you as I can.  But a lot has been happening…

Our thoughts and prayers are with the two Pierce County  deputies shot last night. My God, when will this cease, police officers shot and killed now once a month for the past three months? I talked to a State Patrolman recently who told me his fellow officers are nervous beyond belief now, hesitent to take coffee breaks, reacting everytime someone comes in the door of the coffee shop. Our thanks and prayers go with all of you in law enforcement.

Congressman Parker Griffith of the 5th District in Alabama, switched parties, becoming a Republican. He is a conservative, a doctor, and comes from a district which has voted Republican on the Presidential level for a while, but hasn’t voted for one for Congress since 1886. Not 1986, 1886. Expect to see a few more retirements and switches in the near future.

The health care bill will probably pass in some form, but there are obstacles that will not be easy to overcome. This bill is so bad, that bribes ( with your money), exceptions and special considerations are necessary to pass it. According to a Battleground poll this month, 91% of you are satisfied with your health coverage. Can anyone tell me why we are screwing up and fundamentally changing the whole system for 9% of Americans? And why it takes 2,000+ pages, when the 1965 law that created Medicare and Medicaid was only 137? Did you all know that both the House and Senate versions require chain restaurants ( 20+ outlets ) throughout our land to post nutritional info on their menus? Daily specials are exempted, but not drive-through windows nor vending machines. That’s right, vending machines will post the info too – by law. I guess you all are just too stupid to know that three Big Macs a day, or a diet based on vending machine food, can be harmful to your health.

Speaking of polls, the WSJ/NBC poll just released showed 77% of  independents disapprove of Congress’ performance. Time magazine reports today in a story on their site that an analysis of recent polls show not just independents swinging wildly away from the President, but that the Obama movement isn’t, and that there is a significant enthusiasm gap between Republicans and Democrats, the former being more so than the latter. They also indicate that public concern about access to health care ( which is the issue the debate started about ) is significantly lower than concern over jobs, the economy and government spending. One pollster reported that spending was the ‘tipping point’ that sent indys fleeing from Obama. Maybe we just need another stimulus package…

And, the economy is not recovering as well as first thought. GDP growth for the third quarter was adjusted downward today from an initial estimate of 2.8% to 2.2%. A lot of that was the one time Cash for Clunkers and the first time home buyers credit, which has now been expanded. Growth that is the result of subsidies and government money and crank programs is not real growth.

My heart goes out to the cops out on patrol. They are our protectors, now they need their own protector.

  2. I’m wondering when you will be back on the radio. I mess your program. My wish would be that you would be picked up by the same station Rush is on for the afternoon drive time. David Boys (sp.) is not someone I wish to listen to. I think that would be a great spot for you.

Right now as far as your comments and the country. My response is prayer. Thank you.

  3. John Pierce says:

    Good morining Kirby,

While my wife and I were having dinner at my dear Father and Mother-In-Laws house, I read a quote that said something to the effect that “Tears are the path to a man’s heart”. That quote spoke volumes about how I feel the current state of our world. I have felt tearful as I begin to consider the shape we are leaving our beloved country to our children. Trillions of dollars in debt through out of control spending; our stature in the world being assailed daily by our own leaders and our very national identity being eroded by “world think”.

Our newly elected President was elected on the promise of Hope and Change however, I find myself losing Hope in our government’s ability to represent the majority of the people who just work, go to church, pay taxes and take care of their families. The Change that was promised was to rebuild our government into a body which is open, transparent and fights against the special interest and pork barrel spending long a pillar in politics. It was supposed to be all about a bi-partisan approach to real problem solving. Instead, what we got only seems to be more of the same only worse. I do not have time (nor do you have the patience to read the list) however, we now have fear and intimidation used to capture consensus instead of real dialogue. Lies and distortions seem to be the order of the day when honest hard working people express concern. Instead of a system based on “Inclusion”, “Exclusion” and agendas seem to be the current mode of operation for this administration.

So many of you are probably thinking, what does this have to do with Christmas and the celebration of Christ’s birth well, . . . . . . . EVERYTHING!

Man (and by the way, women are included) have proven time and time again that our best, apart from the loving saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, is nothing but a hollow selfish effort. While I support Tea Parties; talking to our elected officials; writing letters, all of which are essential to communicating to our elected officials, these efforts seem to only address part of the problem. I have come to realize we need expand our focus on the only sure fire way to get the Hope and Change we so desperately seek.

My advice is that each and every one of you go to your computer and get a list of your congress http://www.house.gov/ and senate http://www.senate.gov/ representatives so you have their names in front of you. Get on your knees right and pray for our President, your Congressmen and Senators and ask that the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY would touch their hearts and speak to them on their decisions made on our behalf. Ask for the Holy Spirit to remind them their HOPE is in Christ Jesus and the CHANGE occurs within their lives as they follow HIM. We as members of GOD’s family can not begin to know a person’s heart. While we can get a glimpse of their beliefs by the decisions they make, only GOD knows their heart.

I would ask; no I would plead that you do this starting today. This is not a one time shot. Do it EVERY DAY. If the power of prayer can move mountains, we will get results. GOD’s timing is not ours so we need to have faith that HE is control. In the meantime let your heart be your guide when you vote and pray for those who represent us. It is the most powerful way we have to influence good in this world.

May the Lord bless you and your Family this Christmas time, and throughout the coming year!

  4. Harold Greenleaf says:

Do you really believe the intent of the current administration is to have a quick recovery? I don’t, I think the wrecking of the economy is an opportunity to take over American society by those that openly hate our system. What do you think?

  5. Sue says:

Being able to “hear” your knowledge comments is a Christmas present – Hope your spoken words will follow soon.

Christmas blessings to all of the Wilburs,
    Sue in Bothell

  6. Nancy says:

You are perhaps, getting tired of hearing this, but we are so sad that you are not on the air. Only good thing we see, is that you generally have more time to blog! You are a blessing, Kirby.

  7. Tom from Lake Forest Park says:

I strive to thank Police officers and Firefighters every chance I get. After the events of the past couple of months I am hesitant to approach them. I still do if they are in a group or we are standing in line, but if they are alone not so much.

These events have had an adverse impact on all of us and especially our brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

My prayers go out to them every day.

    Your Friend in LFP
    Tom Smith

  8. JD says:

We need to keep pounding away, being optimistic and tell a good story of ltd govt and low taxes and freedom.

If we reach the tipping point of 51% OF AMERICANS voting them self raises with other peoples money, we are screwed.

  9. Cash for clunkers did raise the 3rd quarter numbers a bit. However, because it caused some 690,000 running cars to be destroyed used car price are way up and used car sales are way down. This, along with c4c’s negative impact on auto repairs and car donation will be reflected in the 4th quarter numbers which isn’t a positive thing.

  10. Gordon Moorman says:

Merry Christmas to you and your family

  11. John says:

Kirby, it is unconstutional in all ways. It is around page 1000, this bill can not be altered or changed by any future congress!

  12. Ken Mortland says:

Assuming you question about why we’re messing with health care isn’t rhetorical…..

Having never heard of Battleground surveys, I don’t know what method they use to collect data and how objective their question might be. I’ll resolve that issue presently. But, the segment of the population without health care coverage, which is supposed to be the focus of this effort, may also not fit in the linkages that lead to being contacted by polls.

That being said, those of us who are satisfied, and I’m one, probably can afford their own coverage. Between Medicare and my supplemental coverage and long term care coverage, I’m quite content. Dr. Matt Manweller wrote that the public option would mean the eventual death of private insurance coverage and I tend to agree with his analysis. Some of the support for this reform seems to come from people who hate insurance companies. Some of that hatred may be earned; but I think most of it is unreasonable expectations.

Support for Obama was visceral and emotional. That feeling is apparently subsiding. Could make for an interesting 2012.

  13. Jeff Yonek says:

    Kirby,

KVI is not the same without you. What plans do you have for the future (that you are willing to discuss at this time)? I met you at more than one KVI function, and you are truly a nice guy . . . the kind of person you want as a neighbor; one to sit down and have a beer and smoke a stogie with. Take care. You and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Jeff Yonek

  14. Ken Mortland says:

OK, so Battleground surveys are a polling effort by the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management. That should give them fairly decent credentials. Will be following their postings in the future.

I couldn’t find in their most recent release the data you mentioned, however.

  15. Ken Mortland says:

OK, my bad!!! I found the data you mentioned on a second reading. It refers, however, only to those who have private coverage. Still leaves a large portion unsurveyed.

  16. Marilyn says:

With all of the disatisfaction towards Congress and the current President the Republican Party should certainly be pro-active and create some real options to over-spending and hyping the American public! I have never been more disgusted with our government. I truly hope we will have meaningful options for the future. Keep the information train flowing Kirby! I miss listening to your program so much. Merry Christmas!

  17. maggie says:

Still missing you, Kirby! But so happy to have found you here. Thanks for this post today. Our prayers go out to our police force. You forgot to mention about our buddy, Al Franken, up to his old tricks again!
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

  18. Martel says:

    Hey Kirby,
Living up in Arlington, I’ve met several city, county and state police over the last few years. All three have stations within a couple of miles from Smokey Point and used to congregate at a certain Starbucks or a nearby sandwich shop.

I had been observing that several would all be together at one time and once caught the eye of one of my buddies in the parking lot. As we chatted, I mentioned to him that it was probably unwise for so many of them all to be gathered together at one time. I expressed my concern that in the world in which we live that even up here in Arlington, there are bad guys out there and that bad things can happen.

At the time he sort of shrugged it off, but said he’d take it under advisement.

I’ll bet that the tune has radically changed now!

  19. Bob says:

This bill is not about health care. The name is a cover for more government control. It’s about paybacks to Obama supporters, and financing Obama’s Community Organizers.

  20. Linda says:

The Obamaites are preparing for the Brave New World of Globalism—where we all will become “worker serfs” (means good only for prducing taxes), where medical benefits will disappear when one turns 80, and government sanctioned killing (abortion) will become the norm. Think you will prevent this by voting for other candidates? Remember what Joseph Stalin said: “It’s not how many votes you get that counts, it’s who is counting the votes.”

  21. Linda says:

P.S. What we really need is about a million people fasting and praying! We need a miracle!!

  22. yuri/west seattle! says:

Pleased to hear you on Hannity’s show. I intend to have some shirts or buttons made as follows:hope and change?-more like “ropes&chains”. I’ll send one to you(size2-xl?). It must have been tough going vs. Beck’s time slot-but he is on a roll, and is needed also. As you hopefully “fill-in” your contributions will be likewise considerable, and appreciated. I recognise that you have pioneered the rational discussion in socialist King county-GOD HELP US ALL-keep it up-thanx.

  23. Susie says:

    Hi Kirby,
I heard your voice on the Sean Hannity show and I can’t wait until we have you back!

What need a local conservative talk show host – Kirby we need you!!!
