ACCORDING to Orbusmax.com and the Washington Policy Council, Washington State plans to raise their unemployment insurance premiums 54% in 2010. Now only the ignorant and economically illiterate think a bad economy is the time to raise taxes. But, please, raise taxes, keep raising them, the higher they go, the higher the chances of a big and needed change in Olympia next year.
THE DRUDGE REPORT has a story posted on the problems and confusion among our troops caused by the rules of engagement in Afghanistan. You should read it.
CROSSCUT.COM has a story by Dick Morrill, emeritus professor of geography at UW and expert on political demographics, titled We Are Two States: Seattle and Washington. It is an analysis of the vote on Referendum 71. Except for a silly comment about voters against 71 being ‘anti-gay’, it has some interesting insights about the great divisions in this state. It’s worth reading for anyone interested in state and local politics. You will learn, for instance, that pro-71 voters were typically transit users, non-traditional households ( big surprise ), singles, same sex households ( another big surprise ), college graduates, managerial professionals, 20-39 year olds and Asians. Those against, drivers of SOVs ( single occupied vehicles ), traditional families, under-20 year olds ( haven’t been brainwashed in college yet ), native Washingtonians, high school education only, Hispanics and blue collar occupations. There is a lot here as the Republicans and conservatives plot their future plans. READ IT.
Hey kirby,
Since Obama has apologized to so many people, does that make him the sorriest president we have ever had?
Kirby, the link to the Drudge Report article can be found here.
OK, how do you pay for the benefits if they do not raise the insurance premiums?
Your comments are very good. Read Drudge 3 times a day when possible. Question is, what are you doing up at 1:12 am sending e-mails?
Do people still think Queen Christine wanted Boeing to stay in HER state? I think her insane economic plan proves she has no intentions of being an economically viable state. Can you say Michigan?
Just received my Tax Rate Notice for the Unemployment Insurance for my business. The rate increase for 2010 is over 150% from the prior year. But guess what; my 2009 total premium paid was less than what I paid in 2006, even though my total taxable wages are almost 4x higher in 09 than in 06. Probably having -0- benefit charges over the past 5 years contributes somewhat to the lower tax payment. I am sure the rate will go down again once the economy improves. And I am so thankful to be doing well in these challenging times that I do not see this as much of an issue.
As a former small business owner, I thought that the unemployment insurance tax was the horrid. If I create a job, thus pulling someone off the unemployment rolls, I should be rewarded. Instead I am punished.
