Wednesday’s Words

Several items struck me today….

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S  health care reform keeps sinking. Gallup has it 46-48 no among adults, Washington Post 44-51 no among registered voters. The Real Clear Politics poll average is 38-53 no.  Speaker Pelosi today said that if the Senate passes a bill by Christmas, they might be able to get a bill on the President’s desk by the State of the Union in late January. Remember when the deadline was August? Then September? Then Thanksgiving? Then Christmas? When the other side is digging a hole, don’t stop them………..

Speaker Pelosi also told the press today that she was ‘in campaign mode’ and that job creation and deficit reduction would be their campaign themes in the 2010 Congressional races. Which planet is she living on again??

The President yesterday said that insulation would be his new job creation program, spending billions of tax dollars to save money. I have a friend with elderly relatives in the Dakotas who already has had their house insulated by a Federal stimulus program. The name of the planet again please?? How deep is that hole??

In Sunday’s New York Times, economist Greg  Mankiw reported that he has studied 91 episodes of stimulus packages, covering 21 countries since the 1970s. ” The results are striking. Successful stimulus relies almost entirely on cuts in business and income taxes. Failed stimulus relies mostly on increases in government spending.” I know what planet Mankiw lives on. Thanks to Larry Kudlow and NR for this story.

The national debt today actually exceeded the national debt limit ( until Congress voted to raise it ) of $12.04 trillion by about $150 billion. Can anyone out there understand these numbers? Was Alinsky right when he said once you’re over $25 million, the eyes glaze over?

Brian Baird’s announcement that he was not running for re-election in the 3rd District ( SW Washington, Olympia to Vancouver ) has led to several candidates jumping into the race. GOPer David Castillo has been running, now joined by State Rep Jamie Herrara and State Rep Deb Wallace, running on the Democratic side. This seat should be Republican, either David or Jamie could win it, though I will admit partiality for Jamie, as she was an intern for my show on KVI and I know her well.

Enjoy reading your comments. Keep us informed on what’s happening and your opinion. Hope we can hear you soon on radio, I’m getting tired of morning TV. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

So good to read your daily comments. This is what I have been missing in the morning since KVI fired you. Sure hope you are back on the air soon.

Actually, what Mankiw is advocating is an investment tax credit (ITC) in lieu of general stimulus spending. Mankiw agrees that the economy needs fiscal stimulus, but he believes that an ITC would address the weakness of business investment and would be a better form of fiscal stimulus than what we in fact were given.

Dear Kirby, Thank you so much for all of the updates. I am glad you found a way to communicate with all of your followers—although hearing you on the radio would be the best. Until that time occurs, getting your updates is very helpful.

    I appreciate hearing from you.

God bless you and yours and have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A JOYOUS NEW YEAR!

I understand “liking” someone personally, but are you saying that you are “rooting” for Jamie Herrara to win the race? Is SHE your kind of Democrat? (In the mold of Democrat Brian Sonntag?)

Isn’t David Castillo a conservative? Not conservative enough for you? But Jamie is?

Obviously more info is needed here.

(Personally, I think that I only voted for Sonntag once when the Republicans put up an unacceptable candidate. But in general, I have always voted for the conservative Republican in the race for State Auditor.

The reason? Well, just because Sonntag is a Democrat AND a pain in the necks of the Democrat rulers, isn’t enough for me to vote for him.

And since the Democrat rulers either ignore him or figure out ways to bypass him and his office, it’s not enough that he’s a winner.)

We NEED conservatives in EVERY elected office in the State, and IF they are conservatives, they NEED to be Republicans.

Kirby, Inciteful commentary and great foresight as usual. Do me a favor. Do not, NOT, ever, ever consider going back to KVI.
There are greater and more important tasks for you to do out there. You deserve and we need you on a National stage.

  8. Philip Morgan says:

    Kirby,
Look for all sorts of magical spinning, by Obama’s masters, as he orates the state of the union (as directed through the teleprompter).
What do you and others think his masters will say?
    God bless you Kirby.

The Senate health care reform bill will pass no problem. Just look at the stock prices for the health insurance companies over the past 2 weeks: up on average over 10%. The bill results in a massive giveaway to the health insurance industry; bigger even than the Bush prescription drug bill meant to the pharmaceutical industry. Insurance industry lobbyists have already lined up several Republicans who, if necessary, will pull a Joseph Cao (“I do not like the bill, but I feel it is something that I must do for my constituents who are suffering from the inability to obtain affordable healthcare”) and cross over to support the bill. There is no cross over now because Party operatives do not want to been seen handing Obama a major legislative victory. And they do not have to because the Dems are being told now that their support is not needed but if they fail to support the Administration the political consequences for them will be terrible and the bill will pass anyway, without them. So the Dems have 60 votes assured. This Nelson deal is a charade to give him cover from the Conservative voters in his state.
