I really don’t know what to say. I will collect my thoughts and post longer tomorrow. Just got back from a Senate candidate forum in Tacoma, so these are my immediate thoughts.
This election has to be considered along with the GOP victories in Virginia and New Jersey last November. The Left has been saying the Republicans are regional ( Southern ) and out of ideas and the party of the past, that Obama is the wave of the future. Well, in three big elections, two outside the South, where Obama has personally campaigned for the Democrats, the Ds have had their a##es kicked and kicked good, with overwhelming numbers of independent voters voting R – Scott Brown took them 3-1. THREE-TO-ONE. The Left overreached, and overreached big time, thinking their victory in 2008, along with 60 Senators and overwhelming control of the House, was a mandate.
President Obama apparently called Marcia ( oops, sorry, Martha ) and told her tonight ” we can’t win ‘em all”. R U KIDDING ME? ALL? He has lost the last three big ones and some 15 special elections around the country for legislative vacancies in 2009 went for the Rs.
The Democrats are in a dilemma. Leading House Democrats, including Barney Frank, are saying tonight that they can’t support the Senate bill and it may be time to START OVER ON HEALTH CARE. Senator Evan Bayh, a supposed moderate who votes the liberal party line when it matters said tonight that the ‘far left’ has captured the Democratic Party. ( Gee, Evan, what took you so long? Some of us have been saying that since at least the Denver convention.). The election of Scott Brown has thrown a monkeywrench into all of their legislative plans. Expect to see a lot of Democrats peel off the health care plan, cap and trade and tax increases. If the Rs can win in Massachusetts, they can win in Indiana, Nebraska, Louisiana and California…and Washington. Tonight, there was a political earthquake that measured about 7.5 on the Richter scale, and the Ds are still shaking, fearful of the aftershocks.
I have so much to say, but I’ll write more tomorrow, particularly on what the Rs can learn from Scott Brown and Bob McDonnell. For now, I want to quote some of Scott Brown’s victory speech. Read it, savor it, memorize it. And, hey, in case I haven’t mentioned it, Scott Brown won as a Republican in Massachusetts.
” Raising taxes, taking over our health care, and giving new rights to terrorists is the wrong agenda for our country. What I’ve heard again and again on the campaign trail is that our political leaders have grown aloof from the people, impatient with dissent, and comfortable in the back room making deals. Ane we can do better.
“They thought you were on board with all of their ambitions. They thought they owned your vote. They thought they couldn’t lose. But tonight, you and you and you have set them straight.
“Across this country, we are united by basic convictions that need only to be clearly stated to win a majority. If anyone still doubts that, in the election season just beginning, let them look to Massachusetts.
“Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over America. We are witnesses, you and I, to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machine. We ran a campaign never to be forgotten, and led a cause that deserved and received all that we could give it.
“And now, because of your independence and your trust, I will hold for a time the seat once filled by patriots from John Quincy Adams to John F Kennedy and his brother Ted. As I proudly take up the duty you have given me, I promise to do my best for Massachusetts and America every time the roll is called.
“I go to Washington as the representative of no faction or interest, answering only to my conscience and to the people. I’ve got a lot to learn in the Senate, but I know who I am, and I know who I serve.
” I’m Scott Brown.
“I’m from Wrentham
“I drive a truck and I am nobody’s senator but yours.
“Thank you very much.”
I really like this guy.
BTW, apparently the story is going around that the President called Scott and offerred his congratulations. Scott mentioned he would be driving down to DC in his truck and asked Obama if he would like to see it.
I REALLY like this guy.
I have goosebumps! If this guy is for real, that means there are more like him out there. Lets get them elected!
And thanks for all you do, Kirby! You and Scott Brown are both great Americans!
Yes, we CAN get our country back!
YES! Scott leads the way to re-align American politics. If the Democrats are too blind and pig headed to change we will replace them. Now , all we need are a few more good men, and women, of honor and integrity to replace Reed, Polosi and all those scoundrels who are trying to turn America into another Socialist backwater like Cuba.
This Scott Brown election was so thrilling and so historic that I wrote some free verse to celebrate.

2010, How do you say AMERICAN ?
Around the World, How do they say “American” in their native tongue?
They shout out “WINNER !” …
It’s the very same way you say “American” in every ancient language on the face of God’s Green Earth!
So let’s shout out “WINNER !”, and tell the World
who we really are. They’ll know … and they’ll understand,
because deep within their soul all the World already knows that
“AMERICAN” means . . .
duty
honor
bravery
justice
freely competing enterprise
opportunity
prosperity
So why do they shout out “W I N N E R” when someone asks “Who is an AMERICAN?” in any foreign tongue?
Because all the World knows the Truth: REAL AMERICANS know how to get it done!
rde, 1.19.10
It is time to break out into a chorus of “God Bless America”. Now the next step … When will we have a national leader standing up and taking charge of this movement? Your time has come Sarah; it is time to start the Nationalization of the 2010 elections with a single conservative message and a New Contract for America, a contract that has a bakers dozen of Constructional Amendments to clean up the endless “loop holes” the liberals have used to destroy “The Shining City on the Hill”. May God bless Scott Brown, and may God bless the United States of America!!
Two things:
It ain’t over till it is over and that means after the certification, after the final court challange, after the recounts, and the objections and suits. I hope that they will not try this method again to delay the 41st vote but …
Secondly is that this represents 60 votes in the Senate but I understand that only 51 (including the Vice-President’s vote if needed) are needed after the bill comes back for reconciliation. All this might be for naught.
Someone (Senator elect Brown) who has his feet on the ground.
May the exodus from DC, include the RINO’S!
They BLEW their opportunity.
Yahooooo! We are back and we are gonna win! Send all the liberals home and let’s take back America. Patty Murray here we come.
Ted
Another of Scott Brown’s clear, concise comments that needs to be repeated again and again is that the United States should be spending its tax dollars to stop terrorists, not to pay for their attorneys. I can’t wait for him to unleash on illegal immigration. He has the attention of the nation right now, and needs to use it until the flash of his win subsides. He should be the one to give the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union speech next week.
It occured to me that the recent victories were Massachusetts, the beginning of Independence, Virginia,
The source of much of the early leadership, and New Jersey, the turning point of the war at Trenton.
Ain’t history fun!!!!!!
John Vasko
WOW!!!!!!!! way to go Brown, it is a great day today.
Thanks Kirby for keeping all of in the loop.
Thank you to the wise people of Massachusetts. Over 235 years ago the people of Massachusetts came together to begin to defeat and put down the tyranny of a monarchy being forced upon their fellow countrymen. Yesterday they rose again to defeat and put down the tyranny of a progressive / Marxist agenda being unpopularly forced upon all Americans. Adams, Gerry, Hancock, Paine, King, Holten and their remaining patriots must be smiling now knowing the vision and system of government they sacrificed for, although in many ways unrecognizable to them know, continues, at it’s core, to work.
We the people….. God Bless America!
Kirby,
Please fill us in on the GOP candidates forum last night when you get back to us. Thanks a million.
I would love to think this is the beginning of a landslide Republican win, but I know better. Mass. is full of independents, and Brown knew how to reach out to them. The Republican leadership is just as out of touch with the country as Martha C and Obama.
This is the clincher
“Across this country, we are united by basic convictions that need only to be clearly stated to win a majority.”
I would sure love to see us master some of that out here in Washington and at large with the Republican party. Some of Brown’s answers that I read were right on the money with conservative principles, and for some reason, he still got votes. We need to stop promoting people “who can win” and start backing candidates with real principles.
This is the epitome of home grown down to earth politics. The silent majority has finally awakened. “W” was so trashed and berated by the run of the mill left wing media that there was no way he could get his messages out to the public.
Now even the “annoited one” is in huge trouble. His policies and his “staff” are amateurs of the worst kind. His policies are rediculous and horribly flawed, even left wing Europe has nothing good to say about this amateur.
GOD help us!
Ahhh yes, the sweet smell of success! Let’s all remember, though, that this is only one of the battles at the beginning of the war. Savor the success, but let it invigorate us and spur us on.
Dear Kirby:
Ready to run for the U.S. Senate?
Timing couldn’t be better!
You’d have a LOT of us strong, Reagan
Conservatives behind you.
Hurrah for the good guys Kirby. I can say with conviction that I am a Conservative; and proud of it and I’m proud that Dave won (change you can believe in). Conservatives can and do win. We have to forget about doing things the Dems do to get elected; the dark side (Libs) has a different philosophy from Conservatives. A republican should not be a “kinder gentler democrat”; a republican needs to be a stronger and more forceful Conservative. As for moderats (that was not misspelled), I will never be one of those. By the way Colin Powell has said that we need a bigger tent; seems to me that when you have a big tent you get a bunch of clowns!
Next time I will tell you how I really feel (as Kirby would say).
God bless us all.
Phil
Oh what a difference a year makes! Mr. Obama and all his cronies have really over played their hand. They are so arrogant – they just don’t see it coming. Well it’s coming and the real change is going to happen this year and for the better of our great nation. I am so excited about 2010! I am so grateful for all that I have. I am enthusiastic about getting back in the thick of it and helping a local candidate here in Minnesota. We have only just begun. Thank you, Kirby, for keeping this forum alive.
Now, if only something as this could happen to Massachusetts’ west coast “twin,” i.e., Washington state. But, I fear that as things are, it won’t. We have a passive, impotent Republican party in this state. Our top two state Republican officials (AG & Sec of State)are essentially the same a moderate Democrats. The current state Republican party chairman is a disaster. When the “party” put up no fight over the theft of the governorship from Dino Rossi and let a ear ring wearing judge have his way, I knew we were in dire straits.
Kirby, you need to be the Washington state Republican chairman and bring back freedom and liberty to Washington!!!
Dave
Kirby, I miss you on KVI. What happened? More Political Correctness?
Jim
Obama’s election would have been a “mandate” if he had kept his promises. It looks like he lied just to get elected, and when he failed to keep his promises, he and the Democrap leaders thought no one would notice. People now view him as a manipulator and a lier who is a socialist actively working to tear up our Constitution and actively working for a One World Government.
I read George Soros’s latest book–Soros actually confirms that the banks in America need to get on the “One World Monetary” bus so that they can remain “competitive”.
PROGRESSIVE = SOCIALIST. SOCIALIST = LIBERATION THEOLOGY. LIBERATION THEOLOGY MEANS “I USE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE MONEY FROM YOU, AND GIVE IT TO ME.”
Just sent Patty Murry a follow-up message “Your Next” (see Scott Brown)
God bless Mr. Brown.
Go Senator Brown! Give Oboma a call and offer to pick him up in the truck and go for a beer. You could even offer to let him sit up front with a real american.
Kirby and All:
Immigration law enforcement did not rate near as influential in that victory as anti-Obamcare and anti-Obama/anti-incumbent blame for poor economy.
Still, immigration truth talk by Scott Brown was one of several that served to win the trust of voters.
Here is Scott Brown’s policy statement:
”
Immigration
I recognize that our strength as a nation is built on the immigrant experience in America. I welcome legal immigration to this country. However, we are also a nation of laws and government should not adopt policies that encourage illegal immigration. Providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrant families will act as a magnet in drawing more people here in violation of the law and it will impose new costs on taxpayers. I oppose amnesty, and I believe we ought to strengthen our border enforcement and institute an employment verification system with penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.

Maybe somebody mentioned it above, but Scott Brown did vote for Rominy(SP) care in Mass. and that is a big boon doggle.
To Jerry Johnson, post #23 – I am reminded that early in Reagan’s career, he was a Democrat, and even tried to get Nancy to be one. But he matured, he gained wisdom, and changed. Hopefully Brown has learned from that mistake, too. And Mitt Romney – yikes – I hope he has learned, too that guv-mint should not compete with private business.
to Frank Henderson, post #27, I hope that when writing Patty Murray you proofread it for grammar and spelling. “Just sent Patty Murry a follow-up message “Your Next” (see Scott Brown)”
(“your” should be “you’re” a contraction of two words. “Your” is a possessive pronoun.)
Just trying to help. I wrote a hard-hitting e-mail to Jay Inslee after the Scott Brown election, with the same tone: “Listen to your district’s people, stop all this deficit spending, or I will do what I can to make sure you are voted OUT.”
Look at James Watkins (R) who is running against “deaf leftie” Inslee this fall. http://watkinsforcongress.com/
Kirby.
Dare I say (without being called a racist) that this is one Brown guy that speeks my language.!
Phil
to Philip Morgan, poster #28. With all due respect, that “Brown guy” is a “who,” not a “that”. (grammar)
That said, yes, he has all the campaign promises of a Conservative, but let’s see what he does in office. Actions “speek” (sic) louder than words.
(Presentation is everything, and proper grammar, when combined with “re-read before posting” and spell-check, puts proper polish on a person’s posted positions.)
Yay! I’m so happy Brown won, woohoo, Kirby! Now I hope Washington doesn’t change him.
