To answer the several inquiries about why I thought it was inappropriate for the police chief of Bellevue to testify before the Senate on the assault weapons ban in uniform, she represents the city when in that uniform and the city has no official position on the issue. In addition, she said she was there as a civilian, not as chief, so she should have been in civilian clothes on her own time. I believe that to appear in uniform is misleading.
This is something that all Boy Scouts know. I guess she was never a Boy Scout.
I agree Kirby. AND, infringing on the 2nd amendment by keeping firearms out of the hands of law-abiding citizens will do nothing to stop criminals from buying illegal guns on the street.
I am in complete agreement with Kirby. This woman is using her public SERVANT position to impose her private beliefs. I understand the concerns police officers have.
The fact still remains that only law-abiding citizens will turn in their firearms. If the U.S. stops making firearms, they will still be made in other countries and they will be brought to the U.S. by people that don’t abide by the law.
I WILL DEFEND MYSELF AND MY FAMILY FROM THOSE CRIMINALS WITH GUNS.
Without guns, only the physically strong and aggressive people would have power. And they would (and did, historically) take what they want.
They will take your children, they will take your food, and they will take your home, if you cannot protect yourself.
With all our collective knowledge, we have not evolved passed this dangerous fact of human nature.
And just like the President of the US it’s intimidating to have someone in authority speak to you when you haven’t a way to respond. The police chief had no business being in uniform AND testifying as a civilian. The uniform is intimidating. The President had no business “reprimanding” the United States Supreme Court when they were there as guests!
I am getting sick and tired of this increased assault by government at all levels to my personal God given rights and freedoms and I am not alone in this and stand in good company. The pols will always attempt to consolidate power to themselves which is the original reason for the second ammendment. We have let the bureaucrats create a state where law abiding citizens must be constantly looking over our shoulders to see who is watching and waiting for us to break some new law or rule. This cannot stand for long.
To the regulators I say simply: MOLON LABE
I’d rather carry a gun than a cop.
I agree, she had no place to speak for the citizens which she did when she was in uniform.
I totally agree with these people. How do we stop this type of action other than with our vote?
Is the police chief a bureaucrat or a politician? If a bureaucrat then she has no real say in political matters other as a citizen speaking to her employer. If a politician then she can speak with the authority she has in city matters or how the city stands on issues.
Wearing her uniform makes her out as one speaking with authority but saying that you are not is the opposite.
Which do you believe, your ears in what she said or the uniform of her authority?
Based on the information here, I suspect that she let her personal agenda get the best of her reasoning.
I am a citizen of the United States but while someone is working in government, uniform or not, politician or not, even in black robes or in the judges chamber, they are not citizens.
They represent the government. Remember when, in Ben Hur, Pontius Pilot spoke to Judah Ben Hur on the floor of his seat of judgement room, or whatever it was called, and then pointed out that when he went and spoke from the chair he spoke with the power and authority of Rome (SPQR). It is the same with all American Civil Servents. They are not citizens but represent the state.
And as such they can either remain civil servents or turn into petty or major tyrants. When the judge leaves the robe and chamber behind him, he is under the same laws as all citizens. (I understand that that does not apply to Congress.)
